Missing Budget: Reps’ clerk displays 2016 Budget at plenary to dispel withdrawal claims

Following rumours that the 2016 Budget proposal has been withdrawn from the National Assembly, the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori, on Wednesday morning displayed the documents during plenary.

The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, also announced that copies of the proposal are ready for pick-up by lawmakers from Wednesday, at the secretariat of the Committee on Appropriation.

Making the announcement on behalf of the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Jibrin. Abdulmumim, the Speaker added that the documents would only be givento legislative aides on presentation of identification cards.

Dogara lamented that the rumours on the budget had taken different forms with some alleging that the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly was broken into.

“None of their offices was broken into, but on social media, it is there that the budget has been stolen, and some newspapers also published that. It is necessary to clarify before going to press with such stories,” he said.

The 2016 budget proposal was presented to a Joint Session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 22, 2015.
