Today In Plenary: Senate Proceedings for today 14th of January 2016

The Senate today went into an Executive Session immediately after plenary resumed for the day. The Closed Session lasted for about 2 Hours.

After the Senate resumed from its Closed Session, Senate PresidentBukola Saraki announced what was discussed during the Closed Session which included the‪ ‎2016 Budget‬.

The Senate President in his statement acknowledged that the Committees that were set up to look into the‪ ‎Missing Budget‬ had submitted their report.

Senate President Bukola Saraki continued saying the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Ita Enang brought in a different version of the budget from the one the President earlier submitted to the National Assembly.

The Senate President also added that the Senate will only accept the version of the Budget that was earlier submitted by President Buhari.Review of the 2016 Budget begins on Tuesday, 19th January 2016.

POINT OF ORDER

Senate Leader Ali Ndume raised a Point of Order for Senate to address an issue of national importance which is the current exchange rate of Dollar to Naira at the rate of $1 to N300.

Senate President Bukola Saraki moved the issue on exchange rate to the next legislative day which is Tuesday 19th January 2016.

Senate Leader Ali Ndume then moved for Senate to stand down all other activity in the Order Paper and adjourn plenary till Tuesday 19th January 2016. Senate Minority Leader Senator Godswill Apkabio seconded.

Senate President Bukola Saraki then put the question forward and Senate adjourned till Tuesday 19th January 2016
