Islamic Cleric Urges Security Agents To Arrest Aisha Buhari For Ruining Her Husband’s Image |PoliFocus

First Lady, Aisha Buhari
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ismail Illyasu Mangu has called on security agencies to arrest the wife of the president Hadjia Aisha Buhari claiming that members of the opposition are using the first lady to tarnish President Muhammadu Buhari's image.

Last week, Hadjia Buhari told the BBC Hausa Service that her husband was losing his focus as he was appointing people who were not with him into his government and was not meeting the aspirations of the 15m voters who got him into office. Away in Germany, President Buhari responded jokingly that his wife belongs in his kitchen, living room and bedroom and was not a member of any political party.

Over the weekend, the debacle has sparked a flurry of jokes as President Buhari has been ridiculed for suggesting that women only belong in the kitchen. Responding and attacking the first lady for exposing her husband to the ridicule, Sheikh Mangu said that Hadjia Buhari's BBC interview is capable of inciting millions of Nigerians against her husband.

Claiming members of the opposition in the country are using the first lady to tarnish the image of the president, Sheikh Mangu, has called on security agencies to arrest her. Speaking to thousands of worshipers after Jumaat prayers in Kano, the cleric expressed dismay that Hadjia would criticise her husband's government so publicly.

Sheikh Mangu said: “We are sad about the interview granted by the wife of the president. We believe that opposition members in the country are using her against the government.

"Her statement is unfair and capable of inciting violence. It is a threat to the peace of the country and we do hope the security agencies will immediately arrest her.”

He added that Nigerians are not in support of the first lady's comments. During the interview, Hadjia Buhari had expressed her frustration over the treatment meted out to party loyalists by those she said did not play any role in the ascension of her husband to the presidency but were now calling the shots. -Nigerian Watch
