EXCLUSIVE: Opinion: Edo Guber Election Postponement: We Should Stop Playing Politics With Everything |PoliFocus

It is no longer news that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shifted the Edo governorship election till Wednesday, 28th of September.

The electoral body posited that the action was necessitated due to the perceived security threats in the build-up towards the election.

It would be recalled that the Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) have written to INEC, advising the umpire of the need to postpone the election due to what they described as threats to lives and properties.

This did not go down well with the opposition parties in the state, most especially, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The party has claimed in many fora that the sudden postponement is a smart move by APC-led government to subvert the wish of the Edo people from it's candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole was on Channels Television yesterday, he stated categorically that APC has no hand in the postponement and that had it been the party knew beforehand, their last mega rally would have been pushed forward as well.

I was in this country when former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan postponed the 2015 general election and this same PDP applauded him then.

If the premise at which an election is rescheduled is genuine, we should all abide by it than heating up to already tensed polity with gutter words!

But Nigerians will lampoon INEC if after this postponement and the election is said to have inconclusive!

We should learn how to be patriotic. Mixing politics with all the activities of the government or its parastatals will take us to no where.

God blessing my Nigeria!
