According to Forbes, Amancio Ortega's shares of the Spanish retailer's parent company, Inditex, rose 2.5%.
That boosted Ortega's fortune to$79.5 billion, which passed Microsoft founder Bill Gates' net worth of 78.5 Billion.
The founder of Zara is very private, which is why many have never heard of him.
