PDP Disowns Deji Adeyanju, Closes Official Twitter Handle... Warns Members Against Unauthorised Statements |PoliFocus

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from Prince Deji Adeyanju as its Director of New Media.

The opposition PDP has similarly announced the shutting down of its official twitter handle‎, @pdpnigeria, which Prince Adeyanju has been using lately to tweet messages on behalf of PDP.

These were contained in a statement issued on Monday by Mrs. Chinwe Nnorom, head, Publicity Division of the PDP.

The party revealed that it has re-launched a new handle, @officialpdpnig. The oppostion party stated that the position of Director of New Media is non-existent and alien to the PDP Establishment Manual, and has not appointed Prince Deji Adeyanju as the PDP Director of New Media.

It said: “For emphasis, Social (new) Media is one of the units in the Publicity Division of the party and not a separate directorate, division or unit.

“For clarification, the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye is currently the Chief Spokesman and image-maker of our party in line with the PDP Constitution”.

It sternly warned its members against issuing unauthrosied statements on its behalf.

Adeyanju, it will be recalled, was one of the aspirants who aspired for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the party in the August 17 botched National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

In its statementon Monday, the PDP explained that the closed twitter handle was hacked into.

It thus called on members of the public to ignore and disregard any tweet from the Handle @PdpNigeria forthwith.

According to statement, “In addition, the leadership has also frowned at the incessant and unauthorised statements that are being issued by some party members purported to have spoken for and on behalf of the party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“For the record, you may recall that the National Publicity Secretary on June 17, 2015 issued a statement titled: “PDP Disowns group over unauthorised statements on Buhari”; and urged members nationwide to desist from making official statement(s) on behalf of the party without authorisation”.

Continuing, the party said: “Consequently, nobody is allowed to issue official statement or speak for and on behalf of the party except authorised by the party hierarchy to do so.

“The leadership warns that it will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures accordingly against any member that flouts this directive”, the statement added.
