Wikki Tourists striker and NPFL leading scorer, Godwin Obaje, has set his sights on scoring more goals this season to help his club land the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title and the individual prize of top scorer.

Obaje spoke to npfl.ng shortly after helping Wikki Tourists regain pole position on the log after a 2-0 defeat of Abia Warriors in a Match Day 28 fixture of the NPFL decided at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

The forward scored the second goal and his 14th of the season after a two-month drought in front of goal.

The Wikki man is relieved to finally end his wait to get back to scoring ways in the league since his last goal in the 1-3 loss at Sunshine Stars on May 18.

"I am happy to be back among the goals again after many games without a league goal. It has not been a result of me but it is the effort of all my teammates. SoI dedicate the goal to the entire squad," said Obaje.

To score the goal, Obaje intelligently displaced Emmanuel Olowo of Abia Warriors before slotting home perfectly to seal a 2-0 win for Wikki.

The former Mighty Jets striker would not want to set a target for himself and reasoned that goals can be scored as the opportunity presents itself.

He added that scoring against Abia Warriors has renewed his run of goals in the current season."

I do not like to set a goal target and like I said earlier, I just want to keep scoring as the chances come.

Many people are keen to know why Obaje has not been scoring but it's absolutely nothing.

Most times I try (to score) but it does not work out, so I thank God that I got back to scoring ways again," he told NPFL website.

Obaje's impressive scoring form this season in the NPFL has earned a call-up to the NPFL All-Star camp preparing for an international tour of Spain for the Ramon de Carranza Trophy.

The NPFL All-Star are billed to play a friendly against Valencia CF in Alzira on August 10.On August 12, the NPFL All-Star will then face Malaga CF in the semi-finals of the Ramon de Carranza Trophy that will also have Atletico Madrid and Cadiz CF as other participants.

Obaje is looking forward to the chance of appearing at the tournament and said the invitation to the NPFL All Star has offered him an opportunity to team up with the best players in the Nigerian elite league.
